If you were a kitchen utensil, what would you be?

The type of kitchen utensil we identify ourselves with can give us an idea of our current state of mind and how we conduct ourselves in our personal and professional lives.

Years ago someone asked me this interesting question:

If you were a kitchen utensil, what would you be?

I smiled and thought about it. At that time I considered myself a hand mixer. Full speed ahead. No time for feelings. Preoccupied with the future. Focus on achievements. Climbing the career ladder.

Eventually the hand mixer ran out of battery. Worn out.

Today I thank the powers that be. They did for me what I could not do for myself at the time:

STOP. BREATE. THINK. LIVE & LET LIVE. ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF LIFE IN EACH MOMENT. ONE DAY AT A TIME

Look to this Day! For it is Life, the very Life of Life

From the Sanskrit Salutation of the Dawn

When I think of what type of kitchen utensil I am today. I think of myself as more of a baking pan. Creating the conditions for slow growth for myself and others. It’s just like baking a nice loaf of bread and enjoying the sight, the smell, the texture and the taste.

This day is all I have to work with. The past is over, and tomorrow is out of my reach. I will try to remember what a great gift this day can be and make full use of it.
